Cumbria Way – Day 3

Langdale from Stake Pass Cumbria Way
Langdale from Stake Pass

After the best shower and breakfast so far (have YOU tried the Hostel breakfast? Honestly, it’s brilliant!) we set off along the familiar way to the Old Dungeon Ghyll hotel and then up the right hand fork of Langdale to Stake Pass, on this 3rd day of our walk along the Cumbria Way.

Needed rain jackets for the first time, but we were too overawed by the sight of farmers and dogs bringing sheep down from the fell to notice the weather; what a fascinating autumn spectacle.

Upwards and onwards with a short stop for lunch overlooking the moraines (hummocks) of Langdale Combe, and then down Stake Beck and into Langstrath, the longest uninhabited valley in the Lake District.

A great day’s walk, with a cream tea at our destination in Rosthwaite at the head of beautiful Borrowdale.
