At Elterwater Hostel we take our commitment to the environment very seriously and are always looking for ways to improve.
We have been proud holders of a silver level Green Tourism Award since December 2014 and were delighted when at the April 2017 assessment, we achieved the prestigious Gold Award which reflects that we are constantly striving to lessen our impact on the environment and protect and improve the natural environment of the Lake District National Park.
We have a number of other ongoing initiatives including a rolling programme to replace all Appliances with new AAA rated ones, LED lighting replacement and a number of water saving initiatives.
Guests are invited to contribute to the Nurture Lakeland visitor payback scheme and in particular Fix the Fells (a partnership programme between a number of organisations to repair erosion scars which have developed over the years, and to make sure that these scars are prevented in the future) and Red Squirrels North West (a project which supports volunteers – including in the neighbouring village of Grasmere – who work to protect and increase the number of native red squirrels who are in serious risk of extinction).
Have a look at our Visitor Charter to see how you can help, or read our Environmental Policy Statement. We would love to hear from you if you have any suggestions or think we could be doing something differently.
