An ideal choice for groups, individuals and families alike, Elterwater Hostel provides simple, comfortable, warm and homely accommodation at a great price.
Sleeping accommodation is in 38 bunk beds split across eleven rooms which can be configured in a variety of ways to accommodate private groups, families, couples and individual travellers.
There are six two bedded rooms, one family ensuite room, separate male and female shared dorm rooms (sleeping a maximum of six) and two sole use rooms suitable for groups or families of four or six.
Guests can enjoy delicious home cooked meals served in the spacious dining area, or cook for themselves in the fully equipped self-catering kitchen. There is something for everyone.
Our friendly local staff are all experts in the surrounding area, and are on hand to help make your experience as enjoyable as possible, be it with specific requests for your group, or simply recommendations for things to do, and the best hikes for the conditions – get in touch, and we’ll do our best to help!

It’s not every day that Gandalf, Frodo and friends turn up in Elterwater, but this fellowship brought plenty of laughter and fun to the Hostel this past weekend.
Walking the Cumbria Way in full costume, they joined us for a well earned evening of food, drinks and laughter, and a good rest!
Those costumes also got a much needed airing in the drying room 🤣
