Eat and Drink in the Area

We’re lucky to have some excellent food and drink options right on our doorstep.

There are numerous food and drink options within easy reach of the Hostel.

No visit to Elterwater is really complete without stopping in at the Britannia Inn for a pint of local ale. They have several options including the excellent Coniston Bluebird (a former Supreme Champion Beer of Britain) and are listed in the Good Beer Guide. They also serve excellent pub meals.

Also within the village, Slates Vegan Cafe makes a lovely post hike cake stop and also offers freshly made pizza, pasta and burgers.

Turning right out of our gate you’ll soon find the Eltermere Inn, more of a fine dining experience, for which pre-booking is essential.

The newly opened Lanty Slee, just over the road and up the hill, offers cocktails and a saloon bar menu

Slightly further afield, but well worth the walk (or a drive), Chesters by the River, near Skelwith Bridge, and the Wainwrights Inn, in Chapel Stile, make good pit stops on your hike, or cycle.

Nearby Ambleside has a mouth watering selection of eateries to suit any budget. Some of our favourites include the Rattle Ghyll Deli with a full take away menu, the Golden Rule pub, a hidden gem for walkers and a favourite with locals.

For beer, we’re surrounded by fantastic pubs, with too many to name, but Hawksead Brewery offer brewery tours, while Conisiton Brewing Company has an on site pub offering award winning Ales straight from the brewery!
