Back in January, we broke the news that Nick had handed in his resignation and was off to enjoy his retirement at the end of May.
It was a busy last month, particularly with the handover of information from more than 30 years of experience. There was also a bit of holiday to squeeze in, mainly filled with the transfer of all Nick’s worldly goods to his new home with Alison in South Cumbria.
On the final evening Antony, our new manager, and his wife, Jennie, kindly offered to run the Friday evening at the hostel, so the whole of the old team could gather for a low key send off with Nick, Alison, and his daughter Sophie and her fiancé. We gathered at the ‘new’ bar on the hill above Elterwater, Lanty Slee’s, to raise a glass and hand over as few gifts to mark the occasion.
Nick was touched particularly by the scrap book of memories to which some long-standing guests, employees and friends had contributed. Thank you ver much to all those who helped with that little project. And now we enter the new era. Please do come to visit and be a part of our story as we move into the future from here.
