Jack-o-Lanterns

We’re heading for Hallowe’en and so we’re issuing a challenge to all artists out there. We want to see the best carved pumpkin lanterns, and we want to create a gallery of your photos on our Facebook page.

It’s one of those traditions we all assume came over here from America. Well, that’s true, but it began in Ireland originally.

Carving pumpkins into “jack-o’-lanterns” is a habit that originated hundreds of years ago in Ireland. Back then, however, they were made out of turnips or potatoes; it wasn’t until Irish immigrants arrived in America and discovered the pumpkin that a new Hallowe’en ritual was born.

So let’s see the faces that you can create. Take a photo, along with your name, and perhaps even a selfie of you, the artist, and post it on our Facebook page.
